Helix SA is a South African snail farm established in 2019.
Armed with all the knowledge from Google and You-Tube we started in our venture
We quickly realized we had to develop our own farming methods due to the differences in climate between Africa and Europe. European methods don’t work in Africa’s hotter and drier conditions.
Our approach is more suited to the African climate and focus on free-range style breeding which in turn makes it more accessible to a variety of farmers.
A conventional breeding room is expensive to set up and run and labour intensive. To date we have helped farmers from all over Africa, to farm successfully the African way.
Vertical farming:
Increased Space Efficiency: Vertical farms maximize space by using the curtain method.
This allows for much higher snail production on a smaller footprint.
Improved Monitoring and Management: The vertical setup allows for easier monitoring of snail health and growth. Snails are readily visible throughout the curtains, simplifying tasks like feeding, waste removal, and harvesting.
Overall, vertical snail farming offers a promising approach for sustainable, efficient, and high-yield snail production.
Note that snail farming is not a get rich quick scheme and involves dedication, and hands-on approach.
As with any type of farming it stays a numbers game
It typically takes a minimum of 9 months before you can see any income from your snail farm.

We offer an induction course at our farm based in Centurion at a cost, which includes a training manual for your referral.
Out of town farmers that cannot visit our farm the training manual will be available via email at a cost.
